talk, chatter and praise for "the help" is running rampant in every media outlet, at coffee shops, carpool lines and likely over a brew or two.
i read this book early last year and even wrote about it here
i loved & adored it. and have since thought about it often.
i've been yearning for another book like it, to make me love books back again.
i haven't seen the movie yet.
but am dying to. and will soon.
however, alex read the book at the beach a few weeks ago
and talks about skeeter, miss.hilly & abileen like they were in our kitchen
just yesterday.
and i want that feeling back too.
so i'm re-reading the book now {knowing the turn of events and ending}
and naturally, i'm reading phrases, words, thoughts and sentiments
in a completely different way.
last night i read in bed and felt my heart
leap and ache
in moments just the same
as i began to understand
and believe
Abileen...and the words in her routine phrase she recited to little Mae Mobley every morning:
You is smart.
You is kind.
You is important.
makes me wonder: if more of us thought, felt and meant these words...
then shared them with someone else...
what a kinder place this would be.{and happy birthday, madre!!}}

No better birthday gift than to read those words that I know come from your heart AND that you make a part of your life every day. THANKS!!!!!
