just right.
...as explained by a friend the next day in a gracious text message:
yesterday was awesome, truly; sweet people, no drama, perfect excuse for a gatherin, our vibe, good karma.
we did thanksgiving 2 years ago at my old house; a lot has changed & ALL for the
better.
but the spirit, the love, the friendships have only
grown.
and for that i am most thankful.
but dw and i worked like our
life depended on it
and moved everything back to the front porch; where, honestly, it should have been
the whole time.
alex and i started cooking for the 30+ on Thursday and we were exhausted by Sunday.
but knew it'd be all worth it
and we would truly enjoy it, once we had our first sip of
wynne's bloody mary.
they are always unreal.
THE BEST.
drake said grace
then the line weasled through the living room and
out the front door.

we ate with a full place setting, mason jar drinks
and cloth napkins with friendship bracelet napkin rings {take home party favors}.
we were joined by our close friends, new friends, folks we dont see enough
and ones who came from afar
speaking of afar; Turk and Tank came on over from
Austrailia
just for this meal.
not really.
they're singers and friends of our sweet little married rockstar friends,
Colin & Becky Lynn. Colin grew up with these guys down under and they are in town
recording music.
they'd never experienced "thanksgiving", much less a southern thanksgiving.
it was really cool to share this with them.

it was an automatic snooze. automatic. trance.
and unfortunately only 4:15. some folks laid around as long as they could.
others {drake} went to bed at 5:45pm
but there was a select {awesome} eight-ish of us
who rocked it out. we stayed awake
until 9pm.
with the help of mix-matched cheap beer, the sofas and a firepit in the front yard,
taylor on the guitar
taylor on the guitar
and the most awesome 80's and 90's cover song concert you've ever heard.
it was so incredible that alex woke up at 8:15pm and heard us outside,

singing, at the top of our lungs:
"Jeremiah was a Bullfrog" then "Crossroads" by Bone Thugs-n Harmony.

gathering
was never in question or ever an option.
it's us. it's our family here. it's who we are.
and we depend on each other. every single day, really.
our bond, our people...is something.
something that
we get teary talking about over a beer at our favorite corner of the outdoor bar at the joint across the street
something that
is unspoken and speaks in volumes, all the same and in the exact moment.
something that
we know is unique. that we know was organically born
and organically grows.
something that
we wake up everyday thankful for...
and that special Sunday, we simply added to the list.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
wishing y'all a happy turkey day.
hug your people, tell them thank you.
and mean it.
photo cred to pallie. thanks a mill! {we would have zero pics without you, xo}

This is an enormous accomplishment. I am so proud of you and Alex for all the cooking, table setting, etc. Hats off to Drake for the reset. I am thankful for the Laurel, Alex, Drake trio.
