may 1

one year ago today
a 500 year flood devastated this
city that i love
this town that i call home
and many are still struggling to
recover

one year ago today
nashville shined
holding hands among the rubble
through the
and the disbelief.
a sense of community, pride and gratitude
from nashville and her people
rising.

Nashville-Flood-2010

today,
i sent a text message to a friend:
"1 year today since Nashville Flood...but that day always makes me think of KH most of all"
our friend KH was visiting nashville
and helped us get my car out of the puddle-turned-lake that flooded my car
...that was one of the last times we spent time with KH
as he passed away, much too young, just a few short months later.

I'll always remember that day, where I was, what it felt like
for me and my city,
for those drowning
literally and emotionally.
and of our friend KH, most of all.

.  .  .  .

this week
i've walked with a heavy heart.
unable to grasp the devastation of a
deadly tornado
a natural disaster that took possessions, dreams
and lives
i just can't understand, can't get my mind around it all.
it's too sad. it's just not fair.

Severe Weather

.  .  .  .

today
osama bin laden was killed and captured
by our country
our troops.
America
defeated the most dangerous threat to our freedom
in over a decade

today
America is shining
thankful for our troops
and their families
heroes every single day.
unsung heroes
whom i hope are resting and celebrating
with peace and pride

as i am watching this coverage, NBC's Brain Williams just noted:
"right now, in this moment, is one you will forever remember...
much like we've heard generations before proclaim, as they remember where they were:
'when jfk and martin luther king, jr passed away.
when the first American stepped foot on the moon.
  when the berlin wall fell.
and of late...when the planes hit the first, then the second, world trade center towers.' "

washington dc

thus, one year from today
i will remember where i was when:
osama bin laden was killed by American troops.
where i was as i watched and wept as
thousands of Americans
joined together in the late hours of the night to hold hands
and rise again
...once again
