we arrived at an RV campground in Del Mar
on the beach
there was only one slot left
we got it.
glad to be on the coast.
glad to be still for a bit.
excited for the show...
glad to be on the coast.
glad to be still for a bit.
excited for the show...
paid tokens for water
and headed to a short shower
finally.
whoever said its always sunny in cali
coulda fooled us
it was gray and gross the whole time we were there
off to the show we went
at the san diego county fair
the biggest fairgrounds/circus I'd ever seen in my life
there were elephants to ride, ferris wheels and teacups
chocolate covered bacon and deep fried butter
overpriced drinks and texas taters on a stick
we were a little overwhelmed with the circus feel at first
but the stages were set up on the horse track and it turned out
kinda cool
drake put on a great show.
the "country music" fans in that place
were a bit different, but alike all the same
we watched the other shows; lukas nelson, craig campbell, brantley gilbert
and our favorites at the bluebird songwriters tent
we camped at the buses and flirted with riding elephants
almost did
then pretended we didn't have enough money
rumor has it lindsay did do that bungee thing; in a really cute dress.
we definitely ate one of our best meals of the trip {no kidding!} in catering backstage
that night
VEGETABLES!! -- a giant salad and fresh fruit
we'd been living off easy mac, sandwiches, crackers and cereal for the past several days
between it all, drake went to the beach with some other sangers
and just filmed a fun, amateur little music video
that's all.
purdy cool, i say.
{and for a song that is one of my all time faves, but has fallen way back in the burner and rarely gets showtime cause of his new hits and junk}
we watched willie side stage that night
and got pretty rowdy at the barbeque later
lots of good tunes and dancin
makin fast friends and the most of our time there
we were in california afterall {how did that happen?}
we left the 'que and literally the whole crowd stopped and waved us bye as we crossed the horse track
a real "road rules" moment. HA.
for at least an hour {or it just felt that long} we wandered around this
damn circus

{mr. wickles. drake's mascot; a bobcat he killed when he was a kid. that cat gets more attention than most the artists. ridiculously awesome.}

then it happened
no really.
we got stuck in the circus.
at 1:30am
it was dark. all the exits were closed and locked
the carnies had gone to bed
and it was just the six of us
and stuffed animals
and more chocoloate covered and deep fried anything signs
than we'd ever seen
for at least an hour {or it just felt that long} we wandered around this
damn circus
thankfully we're all the kinda folks that can embrace this kinda thing
and not freak out...
and not freak out...
we'd break out in gut wrenching, bring ya to your knees laughing
then pure frustration and screams of "let me out of heeerrreee"
in between the laughs.
it was the twilight zone.
a bad dream.
and hilarious.
thanks to a lot of drama and a sketchy security guard later
we made it out
and to our RV
and back to our campground
for a little sleep. just a little.
cause the next day we had destination decisions to make....
