let me tell you about a perfect november day.
a perfect sunday. an absolutely perfect day.
let me tell you about today.
it started with wake up phone call at 10am from drake: "laurel, it's that kind of day. we'll be over 'round noon".
the only request was chili, sweet tea & coffee and my front porch.
easy enough.
it's cloudy and calm with an intense chill in the air crying 'fall'. the trees on our street have changed colors this week. everyday a little more vibrant and little more brilliant. there's no other description than beyond breathtaking; it's why i love tennessee. my pictures don't do it justice.
i wish i could bottle up the colors to share with you.
and hold them in my hands when the winter blues come.
and create my own crayon color.
five people and me...this combination is the epitome of goodness and heart. {pallie, libby, drake, taylor, randy & me}
we rocked our winter best; sweatshirts and fuzzy moccasins, knit caps and long sleeve thermal tees. mama's homemade chili simmered for several hours. our titans made it 9-0. we oohed and ahhed over p's blondies and pecan cookie treat. while our little puppy dog friend, William Charlie Songwriter White, III (aka Writer) stole the show (and my & pallie's heart) then slept at our feet.
one guitar passed around.
bobbin' heads, tapping feet, stirring souls.
drake's freestyle & soul. libby's catchy new song with pallie's favorite line, "a marshmallow grin and a graham cracker smile". taylor's hidden brilliance; a song about beer pong-- it's clever times 10.
that porch is sacred.
no one judges. everyone cares.
words. songs. thoughts.
they sound different, they feel different.
and i know why.
it's the logs, it's the flame, it's the smoke.
simplicity.
our friends, they're family.
our own kind of church.
happy fall. happy sunday. happy day.
