seventy two hours

these seventy two hours were anything but ordinary. i'm not sure why i feel like writing about it...and please know i'm certainly not looking for sympathy. i just feel like choosing to rattle off "the here, the now, the what's real and the what's goin on" is as therapeutic as the red wine i wish i was drinking and the pain pills i wish weren't needed....

awful migraine started on tuesday
woke up on friday willing myself to feeling and finding some normalcy
needing to prepare of an important work meeting late that afternoon
but i stayed in the bed all day vomiting my guts out
collin felt helpless and was as pitiful as I was
i got the meeting covered via text message and an awesome coworker
then...in a very unlike Laurel way, i demanded the ER.
yes, i voluntarily went to the ER...and couldn't get there fast enough.
because I was certain I might rather
be dead

it hurt.
that bad.

four hours
8 missed pokes for a vein
because i was dangerously deyhyrdated
three medications via iv
a 30 minute sleeper
and i was ready to go home. so ready to get out of that place.
{and it looked like i'd "been driving nails up my ahhhm"-- name that movie!}

i felt better, i thought.
but saturday i writhed in pain as the headache literally moved across my whole face.
no luck with a call to the ER. no way, no how was I going back.
my cool doctor "Doc Holliday" to the rescue. he called me back as he was walking out the door for a fishing trip.
he listened to me cry. and whine. and plead. and tell him i just wanted my mama.
he listened. and told me to be a big girl. and called in my magic medicine.
two pills and a 4 hour nap later.

i. was. a. new. girl.

spent saturday night on a new friend's back porch.
next to a fire, watchin the bama game with my boy.
i got to wear my boots and my puffy vest.
yesssssss.
it felt so good to eat.
a baked potato. two cream cheese muffins. and yellow gatorade.
funny.

slept so well, woke up this morning, sad i missed this perfect fall weekend.
smart boy collin waited until today to tell me that there were at least
twenty yard sales in our neighborhood and a hippie girl at the end of our street
selling vintage boots out of her trunk.
ugghh. my dream day.
he knew i would be bummed.
but i was ready for today.
redemption.
however, the clouds stayed gray and it was chilly cold.

i made chili in the crock pot and had a funny conversation with Ms. Doris, the cashier at our little neighborhood market
about the frog legs and ham hocks on sale this week.
we had our atlanta braves and the titans on the tv.
i love ole bobby cox and i cried during his tribute today.
so lame.
don't be mistaken, i still take my stance in front of the tv and do the tomahawk chop with the crowd every game we watch.
duh.
our titans weren't as lucky. it sure is fun to watch though.
however, what i love most about the titans are chris johnson's dread locks. they are fantastic.

i broke out my painting clothes.
i was feeling it. in my gut, in my spirit.
i made six new pieces today.
six!
all different. mixed mediums, nothing like i've ever done before.
i was in a different element. one i haven't been able to channel in at least six months.
felt so good, so right.

seventy two hours of pain, puke, pills, the pigskin and paint.
i hate it had to go down like this.
but im sure glad i made it out alive.
seriously.
and with a boyfriend.
and with a mom who didn't have to drive 300 miles to nashville though she had one foot in the car.
and some sanity.
and some rockin art to show for it all.

here's to a new week! happy sunday.

Steel Magnolias. In the salon after Shelby got her hair cut. Truvy is giving her a manicure, lifts up her shirt sleeve and says "Shelby, it looks like you've been driving nails up your arms" (or was it Weezy?). Shelby then proceeds to tell the ladies that MaLynn is donating her kidney to Shelby which is also why she got her hair cut short.
End scene. :)
