grabbed our cameras and literally ran out of the RV
there was only one other family there.
and us.
we didn't say much.
and went our own ways.
there were audible cries.
and sighs.
wheels turning and talks with the universe
it honestly felt like an alter call.
we all found our tiny personal sanctuaries
some dangling legs off the side of the cliff, others more
cautious
indian style against a shrub in the distance
but close enough to touch
eachother
if we needed
then one by one
when we were done;
talking and thinking and crying and wondering
we left in our own time.
it was dark
and the wind that blew that evening; the entire time we were there
was like nothing i'd ever felt
and something i'll never forget.
our RV sat lonely in a huge parking lot and there were literally stars everywhere
the biggest ones we'd ever seen
and to the horizon and back
feeling like we were in our own "star globe"
feeling like we were in our own "star globe"
so we set up our chairs and blankets in the parking lot
lindsay and i made fried bologna and grilled cheese sandwiches
we were out of beer
so we drank vodka and Gatorade
and we watched the stars, on our backs
for four hours
we talked
and were silent
alex read Genesis.
and we laughed until we thought we'd be sick
over the one of the most awesome quotes of the trip.
we counted shooting stars
and taylor set everyone a quota to see before we could leave...
we even contemplated karma when we slacked in the shooting star contest
linds and i took the late {early morning shift}
rollin our wheels to the pacific ocean
and with the help of some potent coffee and the garth brooks box set
we made it to the line
and a few sweet dreams later we woke up to
the coast.............
{we later read that 5 million people visit the grand canyon each year; but on that night, we were the only ones there}

Whew......difficult to take it all in, so many emotions all over the place. But, no sad! If that RV could talk I'd bring it to Frolona and listen to the stories....all of them. Thanks for sharing.
